Worship, when understood
biblically, is not simply an obligation but also a tremendous privilege. On the one hand,
it is the highest duty of the creature toward his Creator. On the other, it is the
greatest blessing the redeemed sinner receives from his gracious Lord and Savior. What
draws us to worship, then, is both loving devotion and eager anticipations of the gift of
God's mercy: "One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in
the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to
seek him in his temple." (Psalm 22:4)
